A brilliant anniversary present from Dave: DIGITAL TEXTILE DESIGN by Melanie Bowles and Ceri Isaac (Laurence King, 2009). Maybe this will help me streamline things a bit.

For inspiration
I am a decorative little dolphin plant, and my mind is a treasure chest of green gossip.
Rosehips from our garden. Lovely blobby shapes.

A doodle done while on the phone a few weeks ago and a sketch from last night.
Dead mussels on the shore. Flesh-like and wobbly like tripe.

Souvenirs from Riga. Never noticed the similarities between my creatures and the matryoshka-dolls up until now: both have faces stuck on blobby, limbless bodies. I love the matryoshka's rich decorations and their glossy, wooden surfaces. The idea of stacking them one inside the other is also very interesting, and would make perfect sense with my current project dealing with motherhood.

Here are some sketches for a new project, and a few rantings spelled on our fridge door last night:
I want a luscious garden.
Please worship my repulsive white drool.
Lather the man with sausage juice.
Spray beneath her boil.
The ugly goddess needs a skin pole.
I must elaborate: you will lick rust deliriously and cry.
Eat away at raw underpants but never produce delicate language.

Saturday, 6:50am. Breakfast on the verandah while the bedroom is full of sleep. Coffee, dark bread, cheese and fresh tomatoes. Today's plan: going to the market place for fish, returning gardening books to the library, buying an inflatable pool for Aatto, planning a trip to Denmark.

Let's try something different: a new image every week. Here's a photo taken in our kitchen yesterday.

All the works in the show are made of plastic, and the focus is on recycling. I painted doll portraits on plastic lids, and the title refers to Kristallnacht. More images will follow later.
